I’m starting to hear people say things like “they will admit that Obama has been somewhat disappointing.” It never fails – whenever the democrats are ready to shine by campaigning on impressive accomplishments, the republicans invariably start this relentless mantra about how “horrible” the particular thing (that democrats should actually be proud of) is. In other words, when the democrats appear to be headed towards something that those on the right fear has the potential for significant success, the republicans begin saying how horrible it is - calling it the exact opposite of what it actually is, repeating it over and over, until people start to believe it.
Look what they did to John Kerry. Turned his heroic service in the Viet Nam War into something shameful! What’s worse, look who they had running against him – someone who did everything he could to avoid serving in Viet Nam, is a former alcoholic and coke addict - yet they had the gall to attack a war HERO!
Healthcare reform was what the republicans were calling for not that long ago, and it was something we direly needed. Yet when the democrats attempt to tackle it, the republicans all oppose/filibuster/stall/obstruct/create “problems”, such as saying it will increase the deficit (even though it is supposed to decrease it), or it calls for “death panels”… until they see that it is going to pass, then they do everything they possibly can to water it down and see that it fails.
Look what they did to Al Gore. I could write a book on that one.
They have been saying over and over and over and over and over what a “failure” Barack Obama is, and how disastrous his foreign policy has been. WHAT?!!!
He stopped us from going into a depression that GWB had us right on target for. He saved GM and Chrysler. He’s ended the Iraq war. He got Osama bin Laden. He played things cool in Libya - got rid of a dictator, without costing us any lives, and by spending little more than 1% of what the Iraq war cost us (even thought republicans call this "leading from behind"). He stopped illegally torturing prisoners of war, which Al Qaeda was using as a recruitment tool, not to mention that it put our own soldiers at risk for similar treatment.
Have you noticed the rest of the world doesn’t seem to hate us quite as much as they did during Bush’s tenure? Obama has broken ground in negotiations with the Russians. Although the economy is coming around, it is taking a while, but I don’t see how anyone can blame Obama for that when the republicans are blocking all his legislative proposals to address it. Blame republicans for the slow economic recovery - they are causing it to drag on, and they are doing it intentionally!!.
The republicans embarrassed us in front of the entire world with the debt ceiling debacle, the rich are subject to lowest tax rate in almost a century, yet they want to cut taxes more instead of ending the Bush tax cuts – then they want to blame Obama for the deficit for crying out loud!
There is nothing wrong with Obama, except maybe spending too much time and effort trying to reach compromise with the republicans that have been acting like little babies, demanding everything they want. He’s gotten a record amount of legislation through – and this is with a republican majority in the house and a republican filibuster-everything minority in the senate. If the republicans had not done everything they can to sabotage the recovery, we would be much further along with it by now, with a lower deficit.
Barack Obama is a welcome breath of fresh air after eight long years of Bush/Cheney. He has made a lot of progress, and he will make a lot more – but we have to vote the Tea Party out, along with Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, Cantor, and friends!
